Speeding Stop On Taconic Parkway Results In Two Arrests For Drug Possession

Two men are facing drug possession charges after being stopped for speeding early Friday morning on the Taconic State Parkway, State Police said.

At approximately 12:48 a.m. April 8, a vehicle operated by Chad Savage, 25, of Poughkeepsie was traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley, police said.

Savage was stopped for traveling 75 MPH in a 55 zone, according to police. 

Following an investigation conducted by the State Police, Savage and Dean Hanniford, 27, also of Poughkeepsie, were found to possess marijuana. Hanniford was additionally found to possess approximately 3 grams of cocaine, police said.

Hanniford was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a Class D felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was arraigned in the Town of Putnam Valley Court and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $3,500 cash bail or $7,000 bond. Hanniford is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Putnam Valley Court on April 12.

Savage was issued a traffic ticket for speeding and an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana, a a violation. He was released from police custody and is due to appear in Putnam Valley Town Court on April 14.
