Allen was killed and his two children were critically injured in the accident on Route 44.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and his children, one of which has suffered life-threatening injuries, are both being treated at Westchester Medical Center, state police said.

The driver of a dump truck that Allen hit head-on, Richard Colesanti, 47, of Hopewell Junction, was uninjured in the crash.

An investigation into the accident revealed that Allen crossed over the center pavement markings into the path of the truck, at which time it was struck head-on and pushed off the roadway. The truck then overturned in the roadway, spilling its entire load of gravel, state police said.

State police said at this time driver distraction is thought to be the primary factor in the crash, however the investigation is continuing and all possible causes/contributing factors will be evaluated. Cell phone use is not believed to be the reason for the crash.
