The purpose of the training was to help integrate EMS responders into an active shooter incident in which police are well-versed.
During the training, the Bedford Police Department’s Training Unit, with the assistance of Westchester Emergency Services conducted the training for 25 members of the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and Westchester EMS, along with 14 police officers from the Bedford, Lewisboro, Westchester County, Pound Ridge, and North Castle police departments.
EMS responders were also provided a four-hour classroom training session prior to the drill.
The training also provided an opportunity for responding volunteer agencies to get familiar with what to expect at this type of incident and allowed emergency workers to work together in a training environment rather than learn the concepts during an actual event.
Future training courses will include incident command familiarization, incident response resource coordination and management, perimeter and traffic control and press management.
