Deputies discovered Maher I. Jamal of Putnam Valley after receiving the call around 11:01 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11, for a suspicious vehicle in the area of Bonie Wood Drive in the Town of Putnam Valley, said Capt. Lisa Ortolano.

Deputies Brian Neary, Kevin Radovich, and Keith Simone arrived on location and located the vehicle. An investigation revealed that Jamal, a passenger in the vehicle, was in possession of a quantity of heroin and prescription pills, Ortolano said.

Jamal was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing.

While processing the arrest, deputies discovered that Jamal had an outstanding warrant out of Putnam County Court for felony drug possession, Ortolano said.

Jamal was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on the warrant and is currently awaiting arraignment on the new charges.
