NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A 36-year-old New Canaan man was arrested at his home after he fled a single-car crash in town on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 123 Forest St. at about 2:40 p.m. on a report that a northbound vehicle had gone up onto the sidewalk and crashed into a utility pole, police said.

There were multiple witnesses to the crash, who saw the driver get out of his black Jeep Wrangler, survey the damage and then leave the scene, New Canaan police said in a report.

Witnesses provided photos of the Jeep driving away from the crash scene as well as photos of the license plate, the report said.

Based on evidence found at the scene, officers went to the home of Michael Holland at 289 Smith Ridge Road, police said.

"Parts of the vehicle that were located at the scene of the crash later matched the damage to Holland's black Jeep Wrangler that was located in his driveway," police said.

Holland appeared "appeared intoxicated and was not compliant when officers when requested to stand up from the couch and go outside," police said.

He resisted being handcuffed and pulled his arms away from officers, police said. Officers were eventually able to cuff Holland and take him into custody, police said.

Holland was charged with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct and issued a summons for evading responsibility and failure to drive right, police said.

He was released on $5,000 bond for a Dec. 14 appearance in Norwalk Superior Court.
