WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State Police continue to investigate the stabbing of a woman in South Salem .

The motive for the stabbing is unknown, New York State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra said Thursday afternoon.

“We don't know that at this time,” he said at the Somers barracks. “We're still investigating the matter.”

The 25-year-old South Salem woman was walking her neighbor's dog on Wednesday night, Aug. 13, when an unknown male approached her from behind, Becerra said. He added that the woman fought and was stabbed “several times.”

The woman, who was taken to Westchester Medical Center, was interviewed by investigators, Becerra said. He added that investigators plan to interview her again.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a dark colored hooded jacket or shirt, according to New York Crime Stoppers .

The incident happened at around 11:30 p.m and took place at Gilbert Street and Bouton Street, police said. The woman was stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen but her injuries are not life threatening, police said.

The woman believes that the dog bit the perpetrator, Becerra said.

State Police are getting assistance from Town of Lewisboro Police, according to Becerra.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information in connection with the suspect. Anyone with information, who can be granted anonymity, are asked to call 1-800-313-TIPS (8477).
