Man Reports Harassment After Items Were Dumped On His South Salem Property

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – A South Salem resident reported to police that an unknown person is harassing his family by leaving items on his driveway and inside his mailbox, including a bottle that police say appeared to have been set on fire.

Police said they found a Dasani water bottle inside the mailbox without a lid, along with a green liquid inside the mailbox and on the mailbox door that smelled like bleach. They said the bottle appeared to either have been set on fire, or had something inside it that was set on fire. Police also found a broken glass bottle of beer in the driveway Sunday.

The complainant said he also found a bottle in his driveway a few days earlier that was distorted by the fumes trapped inside. Police opened the bottle and found it to be the same liquid as the bottle found in the mailbox.

Like these incidents, several more that have happened in the past have occurred after 11 p.m., according to the complainant.

Last month, he reported to state police that a computer monitor was dropped in the driveway. The mailbox was later damaged, and then stolen altogether.  Sunday, they reported that someone defecated on a napkin and left it at the top of the driveway.

Lewisboro police were not involved in those incidents, and have referred the latest complaints to the state police Bureau of Investigation.

Police advised the family to buy a “trail” camera and place it near the mailbox to see if the person can be caught in the act.
