Krystel A. Lopez, who worked at Tails of Courage animal rescue in Danbury,  surrendered herself to Danbury Police on Monday, April 16 after learning there were active arrest warrants for her arrest stemming from two allegations of animal cruelty at the center, police said.

The warrants were issued following an investigation by the State of Connecticut Animal Control in response to several complaints of sick animals being housed at Tails of Courage, 39 Smith St., police added.

As a result, Lopez was implicated in two separate incidents of animal cruelty, one in December 2017 and another in January 2018.

Lopez was processed at the Danbury Police Department and later released on a written promise to appear in court.

Tails of Courage did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
