David Adams, 49, and William Grate, 49, tried to steal two kitchen mixers, both worth $450, and leave the store through its rear exit, Dickans said. They both got into a car and left going north on Bedford Road. But a loss prevention officer at Kohl's saw the men and called the police, who spotted and stopped the car. The items were recovered.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor. Adams was also charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.
Police officers were then able to tie Adams to another theft from May 27, 2013, in which six kitchen mixers worth $3,299 were stolen, Dickan said.
He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with the reported theft. The charge is higher for this incident because the value of the items reported stolen exceed $1,000.
A week earlier, police arrested Joseph Bentivoglio, 22, and charged him with driving while intoxicated. He drove off the road into the bushes on a lawn on Bedford Road near Valley Road at 3:41 a.m. March 25, Dickans said. He was not injured, and there was no damage to the property, other than the bushes.
Bentivoglio failed a field sobriety test. His blood-alcohol content was 0.14 percent, and he was charged with DWI, DWI with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent, the legal limit. He was also charged with failure to keep right of the double yellow line, and driving across hazard markings.
He was released on $200 bail and is due back in Bedford Town Court on Thursday, April 3.
