SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Virginia Schmidt Crucy of South Salem died Oct. 20. She was 87.
A former Sleepy Hollow and Yonkers resident, Crucy retired as senior adult director for the Lewisboro Department of Parks and Recreation in 2008.
The daughter of Carl J. and Elsie Berg Schmidt, Crucy was raised in North Tarrytown. She graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1943 and attended business school in New York City. She married Edward F. Crucy on Aug. 17, 1957, and together they raised two children in Yonkers.
They moved to South Salem in 1985 after being summer residents for 20 years. Crucy worked as an executive assistant for many years. She also volunteered for numerous organizations throughout her life, especially her church. In 1994, Crucy was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan (John) Burkhardt, of Tarrytown, and her extended Burkhardt, Yonkers, Mangano and Crucy family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; and a son, Robert.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St John's Episcopal Church in South Salem. Burial will follow at South Salem Cemetery.
