He was born on Sept. 7, 1925, in Oxford, England to Hilda Watts and Harold Vivian Hamilton. After attending boarding school, he did an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking. He was a veteran of World War II who served in the British Navy with the fleet air arms. He was a flight mechanic who studied aircraft engineering and aerodynamics at Oxford University.
He immigrated to the United States in 1949. He is survived by his loving wife Marion McDougall Hamilton. He leaves 3 children, Janet Schurko of Briarcliff Manor, John and Jill Hamilton of Port Hadlock, Washington, Debra Betz of Hamilton, Ohio and stepson Steven and Julie Larkin of New Canaan, Conn.; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Dick Hamilton worked at the Tarrytown public schools as a custodian, bus driver and Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. Dick was also a part-time sexton at the Second Reformed Church in Tarrytown. There he refinished the Church Clock Tower face with gold leaf on the numbering and rebuilt the four face clock and mechanism, the first maintenance after fifty years.
Dick also worked at Marymount College as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer. He enjoyed cabinetmaking, carpentry and the bagpipes. He played the bagpipes with many bands and was the Pipe Major for Stamford Kiltie Pipe Band, New York Caledonian Pipe Band and the Arcadia Pipes and Drums Band from Maine, just to name a few. He was also a life time member of the Diamond Thistle Masonic Lodge for 60 years.

Dick’s family will receive friends at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford. Burial will be private. Click here to leave an online condolence.
