Services will be held Thursday for Joe Diaz, 51, of Harrison, who died after falling off a boat on Saturday on Long Island Sound.
Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to noon at George T. Davis Funeral Home at 16 Shea Place in New Rochelle. Burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery at 215 North St. in Rye.
Diaz, who worked at a scrap metal yard in Port Chester, was pulled from the water early Sunday after about an hour of searching, Stamford fire officials said. He was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
The other people on the boat noticed Diaz was missing from the 38-foot cabin cruiser as they approached the docks in Stamford Harbor, Stamford Fire Capt. Philip Hayes said in a statement. They had traveled from Westchester.
Stamford fire, police, and EMS were dispatched at 11:25 p.m. Saturday night, Hayes said, with help from the U.S. Coast Guard, Greenwich Police, and Darien Police.
The crew on the Stamford Fire Department’s Engine 1 noticed a reflective object in the water off the public dock behind John Boccuzzi Park off Southfield Avenue, Hayes said.
The Stamford fire boat went to the location and found Diaz at 12:38 a.m. Sunday, Hayes said. He was pulled from the water and the crew began resuscitative efforts, he said.
He was transported by Stamford EMS to Stamford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Diaz is survived by three daughters; three grandchildren, and his ex-wife.
