Joan Strickrodt, 82, Of South Salem

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Joan W. Strickrodt of South Salem died Sept. 5 at her home. She was 82. 

Strickrodt was born Feb. 28, 1930, in New York City to William F. and Grace Brett Wolf. She attended New York public schools and married wife of Henry Strickrodt in 1951. 

They first settled in the Parkchester section of the Bronx while she continued her career as a secretary in Manhattan. In 1954, they built their home in Twin Lakes Village and became permanent residents of South Salem in 1960. 

Strickrodt served as a secretary of the Two Lakes Club and treasurer of the Twin Lakes Water Works for many years. An avid reader and frequent visitor to the South Salem Library, she enjoyed word puzzles, painting, sewing and crocheting, as well as sailing, swimming and traveling. She especially enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean. 

She is survived by husband of 61 years, Henry; a son, Mark Strickrodt, of Brewster; a daughter-in-law, Diane Strickrodt, of Ridgefield, Conn.; and two grandchildren.  

Calling hours were held Sunday at Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 799 Route 35, Cross River, NY 10518.
