Former Scarsdale Superintendent Thomas Sobol Dies

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Thomas Sobol, former superintendent of the Scarsdale School District, died at his home on Thursday at the age of 83, the New York Times reported.

Sobol ran Scarsdale schools from 1971 to 1987.

He left the position to be the state's Education Commissioner for eight years, noted the Times.

Sobol left that position in 1995, becoming a professor at Columbia University until his retirement in 2006.
