Erwin B. Henker, 101, Former Bedford Fireman

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Erwin B. "Ernie" Henker, a longtime resident of Bedford, died on March 27. He was 101.

Henker was born in New York City on Nov. 21, 1914, co-owning Henker Brother Produce in Bedford with his brother, Franz.

He was also an active member of the Bedford Fire Department for more than 70 years, serving as Fire Commissioner for 18.

Henker was predeceased by his brother, and is survived by wife, Helen, son Thomas and his wife, Julia of Pennsburg, Pa., two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sister Gertrude Rohrbach of Washington state.

Visiting hours are on Wednesday, March 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road in Katonah, with a funeral service following on Thursday morning at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Middle Patent Rural Cemetery on Banksville Road in Banksville.
