What's Happening Around Lewisboro This Weekend

School is back in session and this weekend many of the events around Lewisboro and Pound Ridge center on the schools. But there’s plenty of music, farmers markets and Wolf Conservation Center activities to remind you that summer is not quite finished yet.

Friday, Sept. 7

Welcome Back to School Picnic: 5 - 7 p.m. Lewisboro Elementary School will hold its Welcome Back to School Picnic at the Town Park on Route 35 in South Salem.

K-5 Math Information Session: 9:30 - 11 a.m. Bedford Central School District administrators will hold a session to answer parent questions on the district's new math curriculum on subjects such as Math Trailblazers and Common Core Learning Content for Mathematical Standards. All parents are urged to attend. This session will be held at the Fox Lane Middle School Little Theater, Bedford Road, Bedford.

Pound Ridge Elementary Ice Cream Social: 5 - 7 p.m. Pound Ridge Elementary School will hold an ice cream social to help kick off the new school year. 7 Pound Ridge Road, Pound Ridge.

Western Howls: Bringing Balance Back to Yellowstone: 6 - 7:30 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a special talk about the wolves of Yellowstone National Park. The center had several Yellowstone adventures last year and is eager to share its insights about wolf reintroduction, the beneficial ecological effect wolves have had on our nation’s first national park, and the debate that surrounds this controversial predator in the West. Guests will visit ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa and Zephyr as well as the center’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. All guests will be served weather-appropriate treats. Saturday, Sept. 8

Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Gossett Brothers Farm Market features fresh produce, meats and cheese, as well as seafood. The market is at 1202 Route 35, at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

Evening Howl for Adults: 6 - 7:30 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a special Evening Howl and visit the wolves during their favorite hour – dusk. Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America and enjoy a sunset howl with the wolves. You’ll observe the center’s critically endangered red wolves, and Mexican wolves, as well. Cost is $16 for adults and $13 for children under 12. Registration is required. Sunday, Sept. 9

Live Music at North Star: 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Dennis Collins and Mike DiMeo will perform at the North Star restaurant in Pound Ridge. Collins, who is accompanied on piano by DiMeo, has recorded with stars such as Roberta Flack, Sting, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill.
