What to do in Lewisboro-Pound Ridge Area This Weekend

It’s Mother’s Day weekend and the weather looks promising, so why not take mom out for a day of culture or a night on the town? The Lewisboro/Pound Ridge area is offering myriad activities ranging from musical performances to sketch comedy to art exhibits.

Friday

Fun with Music at Pound Ridge Library, 11 a.m.: The library presents “Fun with Music” featuring Laura D’Amico, a music program for children ages 5 and under. There is no fee, but registration is required. Call the library at 914-764-5085. The library is  at 179 Westchester Ave., in Pound Ridge.

Live Music at Mariela’s Wine Bar, 8 p.m.: Mariela’s Wine & Espresso Bar offers live music featuring Lindsey Webster. Admission is free. Mariela’s is at 71 Westchester Ave. in Pound Ridge. Call 914-764-3424 for more info.

The Ridgefield Playhouse Presents The Second City, 8 p.m.: America's famed comedy troupe, The Second City, is coming to town for its "Laugh Out Loud Tour." From the company that launched the careers of Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and more, comes the next generation of comedy in an evening of sketch comedy and Second City’s trademark improvisation. This performance may contain content that is inappropriate for younger audience members. Ticket prices are $50. Call the box office at 203-403-2690. Lewisboro Library Spring Book Sale, 10 a.m.: The library kicks off its annual spring book sale. Tables will be set up in the main area of the library where they will be selling gently used hardcover and paperback books, audio books, and DVDs. The sale will run through May 20. Pound Ridge Library Presents the 21st Annual Community Storytelling Festival, 11 a.m.: The festival will feature a family music concert with Suzanne Lawson of Music Together. Awards for the winners of the second annual poetry contest will be announced after the concert. Call 914-764-5085 for more information. The library is at 271 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge.

Opening Reception for “Washed Ashore” at Pound Ridge Library, 3 p.m.:The newest art exhibit at the library will feature artist Wendy Shalen and will be marked with an opening reception from 3-5 p.m. Shalen’s works features drawings, paintings, handmade paper and mixed media. . Ridgefield Playhouse Presents Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals, 8 p.m.: Felix Cavaliere's voice is familiar to millions through smash hits like "Good Lovin’,” "I’ve Been Lonely Too Long," "Groovin’," and "People Got to be Free." The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member was the main creative force behind The Rascals who had four No.1 hits, six Top 20 singles and six Top 20 albums. The special guest is The Way-Back Machine. Live Music at North Star, 6:30-9:30 p.m.: Dennis Collins and Mike DiMeo will perform at the North Star restaurant in Pound Ridge. Collins, who is accompanied on piano by DiMeo, has recorded with Roberta Flack, Sting, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill. North Star is at 85 Westchester Avenue. All Weekend

“Color of Light” Art Exhibit at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, 9 a.m.-4p.m.: This is an exhibition by White Plains artist and teacher and Susan Stillman. The exhibit features paintings that reflect Stillman's fascination with the transformative effect of light and color on ordinary scenes. The Color of Light” will be on view daily through June 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Gallery in the Park. Admission to the exhibit is free; parking is $5 with a permit, $10 without one.
