WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Target has confirmed a data breach that may have exposed credit and debit card data for approximately 40 million customers in Westchester County and across the nation.

The department store chain has said the breach may have an impact on customers who made credit or debit card purchases at a Target store between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, ABC New York reported.

Target has Westchester locations in Mount Kisco, Mount Vernon and White Plains.

Target released a statement on Thursday, Dec. 19 stating that the corporation is working with legal authorities and that the issue has been identified and resolved.

“Target’s first priority is preserving the trust of our guests and we have moved swiftly to address this issue, so guests can shop with confidence. We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Target said in a statement. “We take this matter very seriously and are working with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”

Target recommends customers that may have had information compromised keep a close watch on bank and credit card statements.

Any customers with questions or concerns can contact Target at 866-852-8680.

Just talked to my bank. The only way to protect yourself is have your bank issue you a new card. Just a heads up.

How many life's will the screw up. Only time will tell. Will they be sending a letter to everyone as they put it may have their information compromised, I think not. Be sure to change your pass code on your cards if you shopped in target.
