South Salem Resident Named to District Court

SOUTH SALEM – South Salem resident Vincent Briccetti has been confirmed by the U.S Senate to serve as a judge for the District Court for the Southern District of New York.

He was recommended for the bench by Senator Charles Schumer in June 2010 and nominated by President Barack Obama last November.

"Vincent Briccetti has had a varied and distinguished career in the law and public service on behalf of the people of New York and the nation,” Schumer said. “He is universally respected by his peers in the legal community due to his sharp mind and exemplary professionalism. His outstanding leadership, his intellect, his commitment to justice, his deep connections to New York, and his extensive experience make him an exceptional choice for as a federal judge in the Southern District."

Briccetti takes the place of former Chief Judge Kimba Wood, who assumed senior status in 2009 in Manhattan.

Briccetti is a partner in the law firm of Briccetti, Calhoun & Lawrence, LLP, in White Plains, where he specializes in white-collar criminal defense.

He is a graduate of Columbia College and Fordham University School of Law, where he served as articles editor of the Law Review. After law school, Briccetti became a law clerk to Judge John M. Cannella before moving into the private sector. In 1985, he moved back to the public sector, serving as the assistant United States attorney in the Criminal Division at the United States Attorney’s Office.  Briccetti was assigned to the General Crimes Unit, Major Crimes Unit, and served as deputy chief appellate attorney from 1988 to 1989.

From 1989 to 1992, he worked in private practice at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, & Walker in Stamford, Conn. Briccetti then started his own firm, and in 1993 he expanded the firm with a partner and went on to create Briccetti, Calhoun & Lawrence in 2000.
