School Board Names New Special Services Chief

The Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education has appointed Connie Hayes, who has more than two decades of experience in education, to the position of director of special services, Interim Superintendent of Schools Michael D. Jumper has announced.

Hayes will join the district August 1.

With more than 24 years of experience in the field of education, Hayes most recently served as the assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services in the New Paltz Central School District.  During her tenure at New Paltz, Hayes was instrumental in the development and administration of programs for students with disabilities, guidance and tutoring services, budget development and grant administration.

“We are fortunate to have selected Ms. Hayes to this vital administrative position,” Jumper said. “I was delighted to make this recommendation. Ms. Hayes is a strong educational leader who is well versed in the needs of students with disabilities, and will be instrumental in a smooth transition as we look to the future.”

Hayes received a Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary social science from SUNY Potsdam and a master’s degree in counseling and human development from St. Lawrence University. She also holds a permanent certification as a school district administrator and a school administrator/supervisor.

Prior to her tenure in New Paltz, Hayes served as assistant director of pupil personnel services in the Onteora Central School District and several years as a counselor in the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES.

While at SUNY Canton, she was the program coordinator for New Ventures Program, a grant-funded program designed to encourage women to consider education training to support employment in non-traditional careers.
