Reported Mountain Lion Sighted Near Meadow Pond Elementary

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Meadow Pond Elementary School was in a modified lockout mode Tuesday morning after police received a report of a mountain lion in the vicinity.

The report came in before 10 a.m., but Lewisboro Police Chief Frank Secret said he couldn’t release any further details about it until he spoke with the officer involved.

Karina Stabile, a spokesperson for the Katonah-Lewisboro School District, said police notified school officials about the report and the building was immediately placed under a modified lockout.

“The building staff is keeping the kids inside during phys ed and recess,” Stabile said. “A modified lockout is when no one can leave the building but people can come in. Parents will be allowed to enter.”

Stabile said the modified lockout will be kept in effect until the end of the school day.

Meadow Pond Elementary School is located at 185 Smith Ridge Road in South Salem.
