LEWISBORO, N.Y The American Cancer Societys Relay for Life is painting the town of Lewisboro purple.
The cancer-fundraising event, which honors cancers victims and celebrates cancer survivors and their caregivers, is coming to Lewisboro for the first time next month. Leading up to the event, volunteers, including students from the Katonah-Lewisboro schools, are placing purple bows, signs, and balloons around town. Purple is the signature color for Relay for Life.
The event will be held from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 22 through 7 a.m., June 23 at the John Jay High School track in Cross River. Teams will organize and their members will take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event. Food, games, and activities support and encourage the participants and onlookers.
Anyone who is not yet on a team, or who wants to volunteer can visit www.relayforlife.org/katonahlewisborony . Survivors and caregivers are invited to attend a dinner reception at 5:30 p.m. and to walk the opening laps at the relay at 7 p.m.
An important part of the relay is the Luminaria Ceremony, where candles are lit to honor those who have fought cancer. Those interested can go to the website to dedicate a personal luminaria to someone who has been affected by the disease.
