Relay for Life Comes to Lewisboro Friday Night

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is coming to Lewisboro for the firs time on Friday night. The event is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society intended to bring communities together to honor cancer victims and celebrate cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Teams ranging from family groups, neighborhood groups, student teams, community organizations, and individuals make up the nearly 60 teams from the area that have already raised more than $100,000 in the fight against cancer. Those interested in participating Friday night can still visit www.relayforlife.org/katonahlewisborony to join or contribute to one or more of the teams, or to volunteer at the Relay.

The event will be held at John Jay High School in Cross River from 7 p.m. on Friday through 7 a.m. on Saturday. Survivors and caregivers are invited to attend a dinner reception at 5:30 p.m. and to walk the opening laps at the Relay at 7 p.m. An important part of the Relay is the luminaria ceremony, which will be held at 9:30 p.m., where candles in bags are lit to honor those who have fought cancer. Organizers invited area residents to go to the website to dedicate a personal luminaria to someone who has been touched by the disease.
