Presbyterian Church Officially Installs New Pastor

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Rev. Chip Andrus was formally installed as the pastor of the South Salem Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon.

The event was attended by more than 70 people, including parishioners, representatives from town organizations and Presbyterian officials.

"It was wonderful to see all the people from the community, other churches and our Jewish brothers and sisters come out to help this church celebrate a new beginning in a 259-year-old ministry," Andrus said.

Rev. Michael Lindvall of Brick Presbyterian, New York City, delivered the keynote sermon. Representatives of the Hudson River Presbytery, Anne C. Wood, CLP and Rev. Tami Seidel also participated in the installation program. Moderator Angela Maddalone performed the installation.

Andrus, who comes from Prescott, Ark., officially took over the reins of the church on June 27.  He attended college at Oklahoma State University and Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. He earned his Doctor of Ministry at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and later taught at the Seminary, as well as the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Iowa. He served as the adjunct professor of worship for the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary until 2006.

The service was followed by a reception.

"I was really appreciative of everyone that showed up for the official start of my ministry here," Andrus said.
