Power Returning to Lewisboro Faster Than Anticipated

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Approximately 75 percent of the NYSEG customers in Lewisboro who lost power during Thursday evening’s thunderstorm had their service restored by late Friday morning.

More than 1,800 lost power – most of them in South Salem – when a violent thunderstorm rolled through the area at around 7 p.m. Thursday. By 10 a.m. Friday, only 450 remained without electrical service and NYSEG estimated those customers would have their power back by 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Power’s been restored a lot quicker than we anticipated; I’m impressed,” said Lewisboro Deputy Supervisor Peter DeLucia.

DeLucia said the hoped the remaining NYSEG customers would have service back before the power company’s estimated restoration time.

“NYSEG has trucks in the area and I met with the line guys,” he said. “We are hoping the power will be restored sooner [than Saturday at 1 p.m.] Our highway crew is working nonstop doing things like clearing trees. Right now, all the roads are passable.”

NYSEG is providing dry ice for customers who remain without power. It originally was thought the dry ice would be distributed from the town’s three fire stations, but power was restored so quickly that no longer was necessary. Instead, the ice will be made available at the Town House beginning at around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Residents who are without air condition also can use the Town House as a cooling station.
