LEWISBORO, N.Y. Power was returned to almost all of Lewisboro by late Wednesday morning after a severe storm with 50 mph winds tore through the area Tuesday evening.
The high winds had knocked out power to more than 1,160 New York State Gas & Electric customers by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and many flocked to the Lewisboro Library, which had remained unscathed.
We had the lights flicker on and off a few times but we hung in there, said Teen Librarian Dolores Antonetz. We had people coming in from Waccabuc starting at around 3:30 because they lost their power pretty early. We were open until nine o'clock anyway, so people were coming in to use the computers and kids were doing their homework. It got pretty crowded.
By 11 a.m. Wednesday, only 59 residents all of them located in South Salem- remained without power, 20 of them on Boutonville Road. NYSEG did not offer power restoration estimations.
