LEWISBORO, NY. Lewisboro police arrested a South Salem man Saturday night for driving while intoxicated.
Police said they observed Mathew Hollwedel, 23, of West Road, driving erratically on Old Post Road and crossing the double markings at around 11:40 p.m. After failing field sobriety tests, officers say the defendant admitted to smoking hash. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing and his vehicle was towed. Hollwedel is expected to return to court on Sept. 19.

AUG. 15
A Bouton Street resident came to police headquarters to report a suspicious incident. He told police that at approximately 3 a.m. he was awake in his house when he heard a vehicle with a defective muffler and the sound of a car door closing in the vicinity of his driveway. When he looked out the window, he observed a man opening the door to his car. The man fled when the homeowner yelled out to him. The homeowners car was unlocked in his driveway; nothing was taken. The homeowner believes he knows who the man in the driveway was, based on the kind of vehicle he was driving and the distinctive sound of the exhaust system.
AUG. 16
While checking a dark house on Smith Ridge Road in South Salem, officers discovered all the doors were unlocked. They checked the house but found no signs of criminal activity.
AUG. 17
Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on West Main Street in Goldens Bridge. A resident there told officers she does not know how a black Subaru Legacy ended up parked in her driveway. They searched the home but found no signs of an intruder. State Police said they would contact the owner of the vehicle and ask them to move it.
Police were called to the Dunkin Donuts at Route 22 and Route 138 in Goldens Bridge for the report of a patron striking the door and breaking the window. Police were advised that the cost of repairs would be around $1,000. Lewisboro Police contacted State Police to continue the investigation.
AUG. 18
Police were dispatched to Avery Road in Cross River for a criminal mischief report. A resident there told officers that her mailbox had been damaged and the post was missing. No other mailboxes in the area were damaged.
Police were called to Lewisboro Elementary School on a report of an open window. Officers located two open windows that appeared to be left open by workers waxing the floors. There was floor equipment in the immediate area inside the school. Officers were able to secure the windows. A perimeter check was made of the entire school and everything was secure.
Police were dispatched to Mark Mead Road in South Salem on a criminal mischief complaint. A resident there told police that the door handle to his garage door had been damaged. Officers noted scratch marks on the knob next to the key area. There were no other pry marks or damage to the surrounding area of the door to indicate that an entry was attempted. The resident told police that he could not initially get his key into the lock until he applied some oil. The resident said he had checked the rest of his home and found nothing suspicious.
Police responded to a car/deer accident on West Lane in South Salem near Stonewall, Conn. Police completed an accident report and the Wolf Conservation Center was notified to pick up the deer. The car was able to be driven away.
Police were called to the Metro North train station in Goldens Bridge on the report of a suspicious person. A Heritage Hills bus driver had reported a male who was walking around the station for an hour. Police arrived and were told that the male had been picked up by a vehicle.
AUG. 20
Police were called to Branch Street, The Colony, in Goldens Bridge for a report of harassment. The homeowner told police she has had an ongoing problem with her brother. The brother, who does not live at the location, is reportedly on medication and the homeowner said when he doesnt use it he can become difficult and loud. He came to the property to collect some personal belongings and then was asked to leave. The homeowner was speaking to the brother, who was standing in the driveway, from a window in the home. When she left the window, the brother began to raise his voice. The resident became alarmed and called police to ask them to escort her brother from the property. Officers were successful in convincing the man to leave.
