WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- NYSEG expects to have full power restoration to the vast majority of its Westchester customers by midnight Sunday, the company announced Thursday afternoon.

The utility company expects to have all remaining Hurricane Sandy-related service interruptions in NYSEG’s downstate service areas, which includes Westchester County, restored by midnight Wednesday.
NYSEG reminded customers in a statement this assessment is based on identified damage and additional damage found may sometimes extend restoration times.

“As we continue to make repairs to the backbone of the electricity delivery system – our transmission lines and substations – and continue to bring additional resources into the locales where service is interrupted, we will see steady progress in restoring service,” said Mark  Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E.

According to a release, more than 2,500 NYSEG, RG&E and contract employees are working to restore power mainly in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, Delaware and Monroe counties.

NYSEG also reported it has restored power to enable the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to resume full service Friday between Southeast Station and Grand Central Terminal.
