LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Town of Lewisboro officials are warning residents that a low-flying helicopter may be visible in the sky Thursday.

NYSEG and Lockheed Martin are working with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to determine how various imaging technologies deployed in a low-flying helicopter could help utilities collect information on damage to electricity delivery systems following storms, according to information on the Town of Lewisboro website.

On Thursday, Lockheed Martin will test the technologies along 14 NYSEG distribution circuits in the area. On Friday, flights are planned in the Binghamton area.

“Working with Lockheed Martin on this application could provide invaluable assistance to us in responding to storm emergencies and restoring service quickly and efficiently,” said Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E.
