Longtime Lewisboro Town Clerk Kathy Cory Resigns

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – After nearly 30 years as the Lewisboro Town Clerk, Kathy Cory is stepping down.  She announced her resignation at Monday night’s town board meeting.

Cory, who got married in November, said she is moving with her husband to Warren, Conn.

“I am retiring at the end of March,” Cory told the board. “I got married and I have a husband to come home to. So, I’ll be moving, but not that far away.”

Cory said she has been a Lewisboro resident since 1965.

“I have no idea how many hours I’ve put in or how many pages I’ve typed,” she said about her tenure as town clerk. “But I’ve worked for the Town of Lewisboro for most of my adult life.”

Members of the town board said they were sorry to see Cory go. Supervisor Peter Parsons, who was elected to the post in November, said Cory has been instrumental in helping him get acclimated to the new job.

“She has done more to advise and help me than anyone could imagine,” he said.

Deputy Supervisor Peter DeLucia said Cory’s contributions go way beyond what she’s done as a town employee.

“You will be sorely missed,” he told her, “not by just the town board but by the whole town. It says on the town website that the town clerk’s office is the doorway to the town government and you’ve really lived up to that.”

Council member John Pappalardo said he’s worked closely with Cory on several projects and has always been impressed by her work ethic.

“I’ve worked with you closely in a wide variety of capacities and you’ve always had the best interest of the town at heart,” he said to her. “The town is indebted to you. This is a bittersweet moment.”

Cory had won re-election as town clerk – a four-year position – last November. The town board voted to appoint Deputy Town Clerk Janet Donohue to the town clerk position until an off-year election can be held this November. The winner will serve out the remaining three years of Cory’s term.

“It would be a seamless transition,” said Pappalardo. He added, Donohue “is an outstanding employee and she comes with Kathy’s endorsement. It seems like a no-brainer.”

Cory said she was moved by the town board’s support.

“Thank you for your kind words,” she said. “But remember that I’m only one of the many fabulous employees this town has.”
