LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The towns of Lewisboro and Pound Ridge are joining together to form the latest local chapter of Solarize Westchester.
The new chapter, which is called Solarize Lewisboro-Pound Ridge, will provide a solar-discount program for homeowners who are looking to install panels.
"Solarize Lewisboro-Pound Ridge encourages increased adoption of solar electricity systems by offering lower installation costs through economies of scale," the newly formed chapter announced. "Group discounts offered by a pre-selected, qualified solar contractor are coupled with extensive community outreach and education to create awareness and build interest. A clear end date motivates residents to act."
"Pound Ridge is committed to environmental sustainability and home to one of the largest residential solar installations in the United States," Pound Ridge Supervisor Dick Lyman said in a statement. "There is growing interest in alternative energy solutions throughout the community, and we look forward to a successful partnership with the Town of Lewisboro on this program.”
Homeowners have until June 5 to sign up for installation and take advantage of the discounts, the group noted. In the case of non-for-profits and commercial-property owners, the group notes that they have until June 5 for site visits and an October deadline to sign contracts.
"Solarize Lewisboro-Pound Ridge is a great opportunity for the residents of our neighboring communities to stake out their own place in the new energy economy in the company of fellow townsfolk,” Lewisboro Supervisor Peter Parsons said in a statement. “Saving money and going green – that’s a home run. This campaign is just the thing for those who have been contemplating going solar, but were uncertain of how to get started.”
Two information sessions are scheduled for the new group, both of which will be held on Saturday, March 11. One will be held at the Pound Ridge Library, which is at 271 Westchester Ave., from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The other will be held at Lewisboro's satellite town offices at the Cross River Shopping Center (lower level), which is at 20 North Salem Road, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
