LEWISBORO, N.Y. –  Lewisboro police are investigating a South Salem woman’s report that approximately $100 in change was stolen from her home during a service call by a cable service technician.

Police were called to a Reservoir Road home on Tuesday, Jan. 31, by a woman who said that two days earlier a Cablevision technician was at her home working on her cable TV wiring. The woman said she keeps jars of coins on a shelf in the garage that she fills with spare change at the end of every work day. She said she had two jars and that one was missing and the other was only three-quarters full. She estimated the missing change to be around $100.

The woman told police the only other person in home at the time was the repairman. Police discovered that the technician was not a direct employee of the cable company, but a subcontractor. Police contacted Cablevision, but its offices were closed. Officers left a message requesting that the appropriate party contact the police department during business hours. The investigation is continuing.

JAN. 30

Police received a walk-in complaint from a man who said that a memorial located at Route 35 and Spring Street honoring a war veteran had been defaced. The man said the plague honored his relative who was killed in 1983 while in Beirut. The plaque had been removed from a rock located at the intersection. Police are investigating.

FEB. 1

Police received a call from a Mark Mead Road resident in Cross River who reported that a Cablevision worker asked to enter his residence, which his wife allowed, even though they had no appointment or required any type of service. The man told the Cablevision employee he was calling the police. The worker said that was fine, but left before police arrived. Officers were later able to locate the employee, who explained he was doing maintenance work on the lines and had two work orders for the Mark Mead Road residence in question. He said he normally doesn’t need to enter a residence, but that when the wife arrived home, he asked her if he could come inside to check the grounds. The employee was properly identified. Police returned to the residence to let them know it had been a legitimate visit by Cablevision.

FEB. 3

A Smith Ridge resident filed a complaint that her ex-husband met her daughter at the school bus stop in violation of an order of protection. A report was filed.

Police were called to a Manor Driver residence in Goldens Bridge on the report of a larceny at John Jay High School on an earlier date. The homeowner introduced his son, who told officers that while in math class, he left his seat to go to the restroom. He returned to find that his Apple iTouch was not where he left it. He questioned a classmate sitting nearby and the classmate denied taking it. The resident said he had not decided to ask his son’s classmate directly about the incident or to ask police to interview him.

FEB. 4

Police responded to Town Park on the call of a suspicious incident.  Officers discovered parts of a cash register and secured the scene. State police were called in. Police checked the snack shed building and found that the window was broken. Lewisboro Police Chief Frank Secret was notified and responded to the scene. The state police are investigating.

FEB. 5

Police were dispatched to a Truesdale Lake Drive residence on the report of a 66-year-old male who was having s stroke. Upon arrival, police discovered that the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps was on the scene and that the patient appeared disorientated but was not having a stroke. The patient was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by LVAC.
