LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Town of Lewisboro emergency planners are preparing for Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to arrive in the area sometime on Monday.
“The town has its emergency management plan posted to the Town of Lewisboro website (http://www.lewisborogov.com/Emergencyservices/index.html). All residents should look it over before an emergency,” said Town Board member Frank Kelly. “The plan identifies the emergency operations center and how information will be disseminated in the event
In the event of an emergency, the town will periodically post information at the firehouses and Town House concerning the status and anticipated recovery times. Officials will also use the Internet, radio, television, and print media outlets to the extent available to periodically update the emergency status.
Kelly said the firehouses will be open as an emergency shelter.
“The Town House will be open, depending upon where we may need to put the operations center,” Kelly said. “That call will be made at the time an emergency is declared, if at all. It depends on whether dry ice and bottled water are needed."
Kelly said that people should make arrangements to charge electronic devices before the storm, through their generators or automobiles before coming to the firehouses.
"This may all turn out to be a big nothing or just a lot of rain," he said.
Kelly said emergency planners will meet at the Town House again on Saturday morning to discuss the situation and plan accordingly. He said the town has remained in contact with NYSEG to prepare for possible power outages.
“We will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the weekend,” added Adam Ochs of the Lewisboro Emergency Management team. “This has the potential to be a major storm.”
