Interest in such an initiative came up during the Town Board's meeting on Monday, specifically during discussion of a proposal to allow mutlifamily housing as a permitted use in several existing commercial zones.
The topic came up when Harry MacLaughlin, president of the League of Women Voters Bedford/Lewisboro/North Salem, read a statement in support of the zoning change.
During his remarks, he cited, erroneously, a legalization of accessory apartments as being related to the measure.
Town Supervisor Peter Parsons corrected MacLaughlin, noting that people with illegal apartments would have to go to the building inspector, make a case of legalization and then go to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Councilman Peter DeLucia disclosed the scenario of amnesty, saying it has been talked about before and suggested it should be revisited in the "near future." Parsons then voiced support for such a concept.
