Input Sought For Lewisboro 9/11 Memorial

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Lewisboro Sept. 11 Memorial Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday at the Vista firehouse at 7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.

Last year, the Vista Fire Department received a steel beam artifact from the World Trade Center from the Port Authority and plans to use it to create a 9/11 memorial on the firehouse grounds. The department is seeking public input for the project.

A groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for 7 p.m., Sept. 11, to mark the beginning of the construction of the memorial.

Beginning this week, a meeting will be held every Thursday night at the Vista firehouse right up to the groundbreaking ceremony.

“The more people we have [at the meetings] the better,” said Anthony Carelli, a member of the Sept. 11 Memorial Committee. “We want to get everyone’s insight.”

Carelli said the committee is selling t-shirts and recruiting corporate sponsors to help pay for the memorial.

The Vista firehouse is at 377 Smith Ridge Road.
