Duffy Issues Statement Regarding DWI Arrest

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Lewisboro Supervisor Charles Duffy has issued a statement saying he will address his recent DWI arrest with the community and media as soon as possible, but first must confer with his attorneys.

State police arrested Duffy, 44, Friday night around 10:30 p.m. when he was stopped on Route 123 for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Police said that a subsequent investigation revealed he was intoxicated.

“I can certainly respect that people in our community have many questions and concerns regarding the events surrounding Friday night, and I will speak to this directly and openly as soon as my attorneys advise me that it is the appropriate time,” Duffy said. “I am a public servant with obligations to the people of Lewisboro, and fully recognize that I am held to a higher level of accountability, both professionally and personally.”

Duffy said the incident would not prevent him from fulfilling his duties as supervisor and that he would return to work Monday.

“Please know that this event will not in any way interfere with my ability to perform my duties as town supervisor, and I am returning to work Monday morning to continue to serve the people of Lewisboro,” he said.

Duffy also made a plea for the media to respect his family’s privacy.

“I have been discussing this event extensively with my wife and children, and I simply ask that you respect the privacy of my family while we deal with this very painful and personal matter,” he said.

According to police, when he was stopped, Duffy refused to submit to a chemical test. He was issued several traffic tickets for the violations and is due to appear in Lewisboro Town Court on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
