Duffy and Parsons Square Off for Independence Nod

LEWISBORO, N.Y. - The town of Lewisboro will host an unusual primary election Tuesday when incumbent Republican Supervisor Charlie Duffy and Democratic challenger Peter Parson will square off for the Independence Party nomination. However, Duffy will only be available to voters as a write-in candidate.

Duffy will seek the Independence Party nomination via write-in ballot after the party snubbed him in June and nominated Parsons instead. Duffy received the party’s nomination when he ran two years ago.

Duffy said he knew gaining the nomination through write-in ballots would be difficult, but felt obligated to try.

"I believe that our [slate of candidates’] nonpartisan approach to local government is in-line with the philosophy of Lewisboro's Independence Party voters, and ultimately they should have the option of deciding on their candidates for November,” he said.

At the time of Parson’s nomination, Giulio Cavallo, Westchester Independence Party chair, said the party liked the fact that Parsons was a political outsider.

“The Independence Party reflects the frustration of voters who are tired of politics as usual and we were impressed by the refreshing candor and straight talk of Mr. Parsons,” Cavallo said. “He does not fit the mold of the typical politician.”

The Daily Lewisboro sat down with each candidate and asked them five questions about their goals and visions for the town.  To read the complete interview with Charles Duffy, click on . To read our interview with Peter Parsons, click on .
