Cross River: You're in for a Treat!

A customer driving by the Cross River Shopping Plaza could miss Treat Frozen Yogurt, given that it is located just behind D'Agostino Supermarket, the largest store in the strip mall. Fortunately there is a small chalkboard pointing out this little hideaway where kids from John Jay High School and the rest of the community come to relax and enjoy a frozen treat.

Mike Harris, 19, the assistant manager of Treat Frozen Yogurt and a former John Jay High School student, believes the appeal has to do both with the tasty snacks and the similar age range of both the costumers and workers.

“Most of the staff is really young,” Harris said.

The store, which is owned by Lisa Pizzurro, cornered the market as far as desserts go in that part of town. Although other stores in the vicinity offer casual and fine dining ranging from Italian restaurants to Asian cuisine, Treat Frozen Yogurt is the only shop to offer just desserts. Harris mentioned that parfaits in particular were popular.

While the store is a hangout for kids, other items keep adults packing the store during afternoon hours as well. One popular item on the menu is the coffee ala mode, which mixes coffee brewed in the store with a frozen yogurt topping.

Harris’ favorite item is the double hot supreme, which he says makes for a good caffeine fix and has an interesting flavor.

Very few locals seem to call the shop by its' full Treat Frozen Yogurt name. Instead most simply call it "treat" and both uniforms and signs reflect that.
