Bruce Springsteen's 'Born To Run' Rockland Building Gone But Not Forgotten

The Historical Society of Rockland County has approved the placement of a marker at the site of the 914 Sound Studios in Blauvelt, where Bruce Springsteen laid down the tracks for his iconic anthem, “Born to Run,” more than 40 years ago.

The approval for the marker came at the initiative of local music fans, including Michael Magnone, who grew up in the town.

Magnone said the marker is “a great thing for Blauvelt,” adding that the site of the studio “represents pop culture history.”

The plaque will memorialize some of the most influential rock, folk and blues musicians of the 1970s, who came to develop their craft at 914.

Along with Springsteen, a native of Long Branch, N.J., artists who recorded tracks and albums in the studio include Dusty Springfield, the Ramones, Janis Ian, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Melanie.

The estimated cost of the sign is between $2,000 and $3,000.

Magnone’s group is currently in the process of raising the funds.
