Library Jumps with Sean Smith's Jazz

Wilton Library's Brubeck Room (where else?) will pulse with dynamic jazz on June 4, when the Sean Smith Quartet, led by bassist/composer Sean Smith, fills it with great sounds from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Smith's talented group members performing at the Library include Joel Frahm on the saxophones, John Hart at the guitar, Russell Meissner at the drums.

Over two decades, Smith has built a reputation as a skilled leader, musician and composer. In addtion to performing at key jazz festivals and in concerts around the world, he has also frequently joined forces with many jazz deities, including Gerry Mulligan, Benny Carter, Clark Terry and Peggy Lee.  For four years, Smith also played with The Jacky Terrasson Trio. During his stint, the band recorded their 2003 Grammy nominated album, "Into The Blue." In 2007, show business weekly, "Back Stage," chose Smith as the year's Outstanding Instrumentalist.

Smith's compositions prompted John Donohue in The New Yorker to write, “Smith’s been steadily building both a strong book of original pieces and a firm rapport…” and Jules Epstein in The Philadelphia Tribune said, “…Smith and his sidemen take post-bop formations and make them anew with well-crafted improvisations.”

Stylish and supple, catch Smith and his Quartet in this evening of top tier music making. A reception follows the concert, which is free but the Library suggests a $10 donation. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling (203) 762-3950. For more information, visit the Library's website .
