LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Raymond Stone of Lewisboro has been inducted into Sen. Greg Ball’s Veterans' Hall of Fame.

Speaking at the March 2 induction ceremony, Ball said, “These men and women have been hand-picked by their communities because they chose a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery; a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of live and liberty. America is not a great country because of its politicians. It’s a great country because of our veterans.”

Stone spent his youth in Queens, joined the the U. S. Navy when he turned 18 in 1943 and served in World War II as a Radarman Second Class. During his term of service, Stone earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and seven Battle Stars. He was a Plankowner on the USS Intrepid, which means he served as an original crew member of the ship during World War II.

Stone is the author of “ My Ship! The U.S.S. Intrepid - A World War 2 Memoir ,” published in 2004 and available on Amazon.com.

Before his retirement, Stone was President and Creative Director of SSKF Advertising, and served South Salem as President of the Library Board of Trustees.
