LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The Lewisboro Library will receive more than $61,000 in state grants to help plans for an expansion of the building.

The library will receive a $25,000 "bullet aid" education grant, secured by State Sen. Greg Ball (R-District 40) and a $36,610 construction grant awarded by the New York State Library.

“The Lewisboro Library serves as an educational center for the town, a community center for residents to gather and also serves as the location for their town board meetings," Sen. Ball said in a statement. "I am so happy to announce these funds for the Lewisboro Library."

The grants will be used to renovate and expand the Lewisboro Library by 1,470 square feet to a total of 7,170 square feet. The addition will increase the size of the children’s room, staff work space and conference room for the public.

The library also has a goal to improve energy efficiency by replacing their existing flat membrane roof and skylight in order to reduce energy costs and improve natural lighting, according to a press release.

“Lewisboro’s citizens have waited too long for a renovated library and this grant is a big step closer,” Lewisboro Town Supervisor Peter Parsons said in the statement.

Library officials plan to break ground on the expansion in September.
