Lewisboro Letter: Thanks To First Responders After Superstorm Sandy

LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The Lewisboro Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Send letters to lewisboro@dailyvoice.com.

To the editor:

On Oct. 29, 2013, we marked the one-year anniversary of Super Storm Sandy, which severely impacted our part of the country. Even now, a year later, as I write this, there are still people and communities recovering from the effects of that storm and my heartfelt thoughts go out to all of them.

Thank you to our residents for their cooperation, patience and understanding during that major weather event. That helped us to do our jobs in timely and effective ways.

We have been very fortunate so far this year as we have not had any major weather incidents in town. However, let’s not let that lull us into a state of unpreparedness. As I’ve said before, it’s likely not a matter of if we are affected, it’s a matter of when, and we strive to be prepared beforehand.

Remember — prepare, plan and stay informed. A great resource is ready.gov and you can also get information on our Facebook page — Lewisboro Office of Emergency Management and on Twitter — Lewisboro OEM.

I’ll take this opportunity to once again praise and thank all the first responders, town employees, school superintendent, NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas) and out-of-area utility crews — some from as far away as California — Westchester County and NY State Office of Emergency Management, National Guard and civilian volunteers who helped to reduce the impact of Sandy to our town and helped restore normalcy safely and in a timely manner.
