LEWISBORO, N.Y. The Lewisboro Horsemens Association (LHA) will kick of its 22nd spring season with its first ever "Happy Trails Happy Hour" on Thursday, April 12, at JPs Lounge, the upstairs bistro at Le Chateau Restaurant in South Salem from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The associations board members will tend bar for the evening with all tips benefiting the LHA John Jay High School scholarship, which is awarded each year to a high school senior who shows scholarship, a passion for horses and a commitment to community service, the association said.
The LHA develops and maintains over 25 miles of riding trails that run throughout Lewisboro across private, public and land trust properties, according to the association. They adjoin the North Salem Bridle Trails Association to the north and run south through the Lewisboro Town Park to Ward Pound Ridge Preservation and the Bedford Riding Lanes Associations trails.
"We are fortunate to live in a community that still welcomes horses, whether in backyard barns or boarding stables," said LHA President Callie Bauer. Our trails are a precious resource and we strive to keep them open and available to all of our members.
Other upcoming LHA events include Trail Cleanup Day on April 28, and the Annual Poker Run through the reservation on May 20, an event that starts from Lewisboro Town Park and returns for a barbeque in the parks pavilion. This year's annual Summer Barbecue, which honors participating landowners, will be on June 30.
The LHA welcomes riders of all disciplines. Trail membership is $55 per year for an individual and $65 per family. Supporting membership for those who do not ride but want to support the trail system is $30. Juniors are encouraged to join. Members receive a registration discount for the LHAs Fall Hunter Pace.
Details for all events throughout the year are posted on the LHA website www.lhatrails.org and on Facebook at Lewisboro Horsemens Association.
