LEWISBORO, N.Y. - The Lewisboro Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. To submit your letter, email lewisboro@dailyvoice.com .

To the Editor:

A small town’s clerk, who was recently recognized as the best in the state, retires. Her hand-trained deputy is unanimously appointed by the bipartisan town board, carrying forward the friendly, professional tradition of her predecessor while instituting new innovations. Unfortunately, this bipartisan spirit is broken when a member of the Democratic Town Committee, a controversial local columnist, announces his intention to challenge her.

Why are we here? Must the voters have a choice or is Mr. Morris, who it appears has not had a traditional full-time job in many years, in search of one?

While his writing can be provocative and interesting when not cruel or misogynistic, Mr. Morris has a history of being highly partisan, and in the tradition of many political columnists (even the paid ones) he appears to be distracted and disorganized. This may make for an interesting fellow, but not a good town clerk.
