Letter: Morris Not Appropriate For Lewisboro Clerk

To the Editor:

While I do not approve of my name being used in a political letter without my knowledge, it did lead me to unearth the Jeffery Morris-penned article to which Ms. Kulhanek referred.

After reading his article in which he assumes Ms. Whalen and I were in cahoots to bring down the supervisor, the article in which he assumes I had a questionably obtained internal memo, I have to reveal the truth: Ms. Whalen and I did not know each other and had never spoken before that board meeting. And, the "internal memo" in my hand, the one that apparently cost the supervisor his campaign, was simply that evening's board meeting agenda, which I failed to put down prior to standing up to address the leaf issue in my neighborhood.

The most troubling aspect to Mr. Morris' infamous opinion piece is that he made inflammatory accusations and judgments without performing any fact-finding or having the courtesy or professionalism to ask me directly. He made rude, misogynistic comments about Ms. Whalen, a respected leader in our community. In his eagerness to slay his candidate's opposing political party, he created an imaginary scenario that held no truth whatsoever, causing his candidate for supervisor a heap of negative press and which, ultimately, cost him his re-election.

In reviewing Mr. Morris' article, it further solidifies why he is not appropriate for the sensitive nature of the job of town clerk. The position of town clerk is non-partisan. It involves a tremendous amount of compassion and discretion, and Mr. Morris has demonstrated that he does not possess these characteristics. Janet Donohue does.
