To the editor:

The League of Women Voters of Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem applauds the Lewisboro Town Board for unanimously passing zoning legislation expanding multi-family housing in the town's commercial, retail and business zones at a recent meeting. This is an important first step in complying with the HUD Westchester County affordable housing settlement.

This multi-family rezoning is one of three major parts of the proposed Lewisboro ordinance. We urge the Board to finalize the allowing of accessory apartments "as of right" and adopting applicable provisions of the county's model ordinance. In line with our mission to inform voters of local issues and new developments, the LWV of Bedford, Lewisboro and North Salem is sponsoring a State of the Towns Meeting, Monday, Sept. 21 at the Katonah Library at 7 p.m.

Featured will be the supervisors of the three towns in our district, Bedford, Lewisboro and North Salem. They are: Chris Burdick of Bedford; Peter H. Parsons of Lewisboro and Warren J. Lucas of North Salem.
