Westchester Group Helps Breast Cancer Sufferers

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Women in Westchester County suffering from breast and ovarian cancer are not all alone in fighting the disease.  Support Connection, Inc., a non-profit organization provides free, confidential support services for those affected by the diseases.

Support groups focus on topics pertaining to living with cancer through all stages of diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment. Besides Westchester, the services are offered in Putnam and Dutchess counties as well.

The group has slated several support group sessions for the month of August:

Breast Cancer Daytime Support Group, Thursday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m., and Breast Cancer Evening Support Group, Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. Both sessions are held at the Support Connection office in Yorktown.

Young Women’s Breast Cancer Support Group (for women who have or had breast cancer at a young age), Aug. 10 at 7 p.m., and Support Group for Women Living with Recurrence (for women living with the recurrence of breast or ovarian cancer with advanced stage and/or metastasis), Friday, Aug. 19, at 12:30 p.m. This group also meets at the Support Connection office in Yorktown

Breast Cancer Support Group, Thursday, Aug. 4, 7 p.m., at the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco.

The group also offers teleconferencing for those unable to attend the groups in person. Call several days ahead to learn how to participate. The Ovarian Cancer Telephone Group takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. The Telephone Group for Women Recently Diagnosed or In Treatment for Breast Cancer takes place Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 8 p.m.
