Gumbel turns 69 Friday.
A well-known television journalist and sportscaster, he was born Sept. 29, 1948, in New Orleans.
He is best-known as the co-host of NBC's “The Today Show," for 15 years. He is the younger brother of sportscaster Greg Gumbel.
Gumbel's work on “The Today Show” earned him several Emmys. He also worked for CBS on “The Early Show” and currently hosts “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” on HBO.
