SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) is celebrating Earth Day by taking to the skies.
Talons!, an interactive bird of prey experience, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, April 24. Tickets are available for adults ($20) and children under 12 ($15).
The event is to feature Lorrie Schumacher, a master falconer with Talons!, along with several varieties of fine feathered friends, including the European Owl, the Barred Owl, the Ring Necked Raven and others, according to a statement from the private organization.
The educational experience aims to teach visitors about how birds fly and interact with their environment through a series of "controlled flying demonstrations," according to organizers.
While utilizing high levels of audience participation, presenters are set to discuss raptor characteristics, life history, conservation efforts, the importance of raptors to the environment's natural balance, according to organizers.
Those attending the event will have the opportunity to hold a raptor and to enjoy visiting with WCC ambassador wolves. Critically endangered wolves like the red wolf and the Mexican wolf, also will be available for visits, according to organizers.
